Miles Redfern received his BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nottingham and his PhD degree from the University of Cambridge. His research topic was Signal Processing Techniques in Distance Protection Applications.

He is Senior Lecturer with the Power and Energy Systems Group in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. His research interests include the Protection and Control of Electrical Power Systems, including embedded generation into networks and the location of Buried Utilities using Ground Penetrating Radar. He has written approximately 200 learned publications, most of which have been presented to international audiences.

Dr. Miles A Redfern

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

His teaching interests include Power System Protection, Distribution System Engineering, Engineering Management and Electronic Systems. The majority of his teaching activities are provided for Masters students.

Before joining the University of Bath, he worked for the Research Division of British Railways Board in Derby and at GEC Measurements in Stafford. During his work in Stafford, he held several positions including Head of Applied Research and Long Term Development and Oversea Sale Manager.

He is a Chartered Engineer and member of the IEE, the IEEE and the CIM.

  • Dr Redfern is a Guest Professor at The Electric and Information School of Changsha University of Science and Technology, China. (Changsha University webpage)
  • Served on a variety of National and International Professional Committees and is currently a member of the Management Board and Editorial Board of Leonardo Initiative on Power Quality, and the orgaizing Committee og the IEE Vacation School Committee for Electrical Generators.
