Colour and Multispectral Image Processing

Background:

The rapidly-increasing availability of multi- and hyper-spectral satellite imagery, and low-cost colour digital cameras, has resulted in multi-channel image representations becoming far more prevalent. This presents many challenges to image processing and analysis as the extension of many greyscale techniques to more than one channel is not straightforward. This is particularly true for nonlinear techniques, for example the median filter and morphological operations, which are based on pixel ordering.

Projects:

  • Efficient single image dehazing algorithms for colour images (Masters student Gengqian Yang)
  • The development of morphological scale-spaces for colour images and their application to noise reduction and segmentation (PhD student David Gimenez).
  • Colour and multispectral edge detection.
  • Morphological operations based on novel vector ordering.
