Research Interests and Activities

My PhD thesis explores the use of voluntary sector organisations to provide public services in the UK, in particular, social care services to older people, and the implications of these policies for the governance of the voluntary sector. The empirical research comprises two parts. The first is a discursive analysis of government policy towards the third sector over the last ten years and a set of interviews with policy makers and practitioners in the statutory and third sectors at the national level. The second part comprises a set of interviews with social service contractors and third sector organisations in three different local authorities in England. My PhD is funded under the ESRC 1+3 award scheme.

I am an Associate Researcher of the ERI (European Research Institute), led by the Department of Social and Policy Sciences at the University of Bath. I am also a member of the SPA (Social Policy Association) and the ISTR (International Society for Third Sector Research).
