Jamie Courtenay

At the Neutron and Muon User Meeting 2016

Jamie graduated from his MChem degree at the University of Bath in 2014. His interest in all things colloidal was spurred by a placement year at Syngenta working on agrochemical formulation. Jamie followed this up with a final year project under the veteran wing of Prof. Gareth Price, synthesising polymer microcapsules using ultrasound that could be used for drug delivery.

Jamie studied for his PhD as part of the CDT in Sustainable Chemical Technologies. His research was based on chemically modified cellulose for tissue engineering applications, and was co-supervised by Dr Janet Scott, Prof. Karen Edler and Dr. Ram Sharma (all Bath).

Most of the time, Jamie could be found patrolling the various waterways of Bath by foot or by bike. Jamie is also a keen ‘foodie’, and enjoys slow-cooking large batches of dishes inspired by his globetrotting antics- for example, the infamous ‘rice and beans’ of São Paolo (we hear this is particularly nice when chorizo sausage is run through).
