Andrew McCluskey

Andrew sailing the seven seas

Life is difficult, and even more when analysing scattering data becomes your day-to-day activity. But Andrew tried to make our lives easier.

This thoroughbred Scottish pal was raised by wolves in the northern mountains of Glasgow and, got an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh, including some time in Connecticut making polymers for Cytec. Following his American adventure, he crossed the Atlantic to join the ERG and work on the collaborative CCP-SAS project. Andrew worked on the development of software for analysing small-angle scattering and reflectometry data using atomistic and coarse-grained modelling.

Andrew was supervised by Prof. Karen Edler, Prof. Steve Parker (Bath), and Drs Andrew Smith and Jonathan Rawle (both Diamond Light Source)

Computational knowledge and beer drinking stand out amongst his numerous skills. Following his successful graduation from Bath in 2019, Andrew has moved to Diamond, allowing him to spend even more time on beamlines, and coding.
