The actor within....

Withnail: Monty used to act.
Monty: I'd hardly say that. It's true I crept the boards in my youth, but I never had it in my blood, and that's what so essential isn't it? Theatrical zeal in the veins. Alas, I have little more that vintage wine and memories.

Some history...

It is true, I have had my 'moments' on stage. Quite apart from my ( ongoing ) daliances with the world of popular music, I started out on my theatrical voyage in 1993 as Macheath in 'The Beggars Opera'. An unqualified success, even by the very high standards of a Fishponds audience. Quickly came more, equally memorable roles. One only has to recall my extraordinary vocal gymnastics as Ali Hakim in 'Oklahoma' in 1994. This has since come to be known as the 'standard' accent when playing Persian/Italian/Romanian/Welsh characters. Similarly my depiction of Dr. Daly in 'The Scorcerer' was applauded by many as I effortlessly rolled forward the years. How could someone only in their mid-twenties so easily portray a gnarled, flabby and decrepit batchelor with hardly any use of make-up? It was a remarkable performance.
More light musical work came my way at exotic venues - the Bath Forum, Stourhead’s Fête Champêtre, The Rondo, the crypt of St. Michael's church at Bath ( opposite Waitrose ). It was a whirlwind - one G&S night blurred into another charity Sondheim evening. I was in danger of burning out.....

More soon....I'm the one in the checks...
