to trained HIV/AIDS healthcare workers and educators
in Zambia. The objective is to bring healthcare to patients,
patients to clinics, and preventative care education
to communities. More information on the
Zambia Project here and full
details as a pdf file here.

Jole rider is a small but ambitious organisation
based in Gloucestershire, UK. Currently their main effort
goes into their Bikes4Africa
programme that collects unused bikes in the UK,
refurbishes them and ships them to Africa for use by
schoolchildren as transport to school. The bikes are
allocated to schools, who issue them to pupils in need.
When the pupils finish their education the bikes are
returned for re-issue. Spare parts and basic maintenance
tuition are provided as part of the package to ensure
the programme delivers over the longer term.
Currently the project operates in the Gambia but a
3 year plan will see expansion into East and Southern
Africa. Collecting enough bikes is straightforward but
money to ship them is always in short supply.
Target for allsevens in the UK is
to raise the cost of shipping one container of 300 bikes,
£3000. |
